Benue Governor Swears-In New Health Commissioner.
Samuel Ortom, Benue State Governor sworn in the New commissioner for Health and Human Services in the state, Dr Emmanuel Ikwulono. Dr Emmanuel Ikwulono replaced Dr Sunday Ongbabo who resigned his appointment as the commissioner for Health last week.
A statement by the State Government on Wednesday stated that Dr Ikwulono's appointment was based on merit and competence.
The State Governor charged health practitioners in the state to give attention to other health challenges in the state aside the COVID-19, such as diabetes, hepatitis, malaria, typhoid among others. Ortom called all stakeholders to join hands with the commissioner for ehhanced service delivery in the health sector. Ikwulono on his part expressed appreciation to the Governor for finding him worthy to serve the state.
306 Nigerians Arrive in Abuja From UAE.
Three hundred and six Nigerians arrived from United Arab Emirates(UAE) into the country on Wednesday. Nigerians in Diaspora Commission(NIDCOM) said the returnees arrived at the Nnamdi Azikwe International Airport, Abuja at about 8:00am.
NIDCOM tweeted via it's Twitter handle and said "Some Evacuees will disembark in Abuja while others will proceed to Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos."
According to the agency, although the evacuees have tested negative to COVID-19, they will be undergoing mandatory self-isolation in line with guidelines from the Presidential Task Force and the Nigeria Center for Disease Control(NCDC).
Health Workers Goes on Indefinite Strike Over Salary Deduction in Bauchi.
Bauchi State health workers under the Joint Health Sector Union and Assembly of Health Care Professionals(JOHESU), have commenced an indefinite strike today(Thursday, August 6 2020).
This is due to the unilateral deductions of the worker's June salaries by the State Government, according to the state secretary, Usman Danturaki.
A statement sent to all branch chairmen and secretaries, Medical and Health Worker's Union, Bauchi State on Wednesday reads: "Following the inability of Government to reserve it's decision on the deductions unilaterally made in the month of June, coupled with it's blatant refused to offer any convincing reason as a rationale behind the deduction despite series of promises made; based on the resolution reached at the state executive council meeting held on 4th August 2020,you are hereby directed to commence an indefinite strike action from 12:00am of Thursday, 6th August 2020 until further directed."
